    Alzheimer's Day Care Resource Centers

    Provides services that support the physical and psychosocial needs of persons with Alzheimer's disease or related dementia. Individual care plans are developed for each program participant with activities scheduled in accordance with these plans. The overall objective is to keep the participants as healthy and active as possible by helping them maintain their highest level of functioning and to improve the quality of their lives while providing respite to caregivers.

    Foster Grandparent Program

    An intergenerational volunteer program that provides valuable aid to children and youth with special and exceptional needs. Foster Grandparent volunteers provide person-to-person support to children up to age 21. Volunteers serve in schools, hospitals, drug treatment centers, juvenile offender facilities, Head Start programs, childcare centers, and other community sites.

    Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program (HICAP)

    Legal Assistance

    Aids the Area Agencies on Aging in evaluating their senior Legal Services Projects with a view to increasing the quantity and quality of services. Through the Association of Legal Service Programs for Older Californians, the Department provides individual and group technical assistance to senior legal service projects.

    Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program

    The primary responsibility of the program is to investigate and endeavor to resolve complaints made by, or on behalf of, individual residents in long-term care facilities. These facilities include nursing homes, residential care facilities for the elderly, and assisted living facilities. The Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program investigates elder abuse complaints in long-term care facilities and in residential care facilities for the elderly.

    Multipurpose Senior Services Program

    Provides social and health care management for frail elderly clients who are certifiable for placement in a nursing facility but who wish to remain in the community. The goal of the program is to arrange for and monitor the use of community services to prevent or delay premature institutional placement of these frail clients.

    Nutrition Services

    Provides a vital link in maintaining the health of older Californians by preventing premature institutionalization and improving their overall quality of life. The California Department of Aging administers nutrition services funded by the federal Older Americans Act and state general fund dollars through the network of Area Agencies on Aging and their service providers.

    Respite Program

    Provides for the limited purchase of temporary or periodic care for frail elderly adults and adults with disabilities, 18 years and over, for the purpose of relieving a primary caregiver. Services which may be purchased include in home care, adult day care, and brief stays in board and care homes or nursing homes.

    Senior Community Service Employment Program

    Provides part-time work-based training opportunities at local community service agencies for older workers who have poor employment prospects and assists with the transition of individuals to private or other employment opportunities in the community.

    Senior Companion Program

    Provides supportive services to adults with physical, emotional, or mental health limitations, the majority of whom are elderly, in an effort to achieve and maintain their highest level of independent living.

Employment Development Department: Paid Family Leave Insurance Program
