BRIEF: S.C. agencies receive $2.8M in federal grant for children's mental health programs

Post & Courier (Charleston, SC) - 10/23/2014

Oct. 22--A new statewide effort to improve mental health resources for children just received a $2.8 million federal grant.

The Palmetto Coordinated System of Care includes leaders from several state agencies, including Medicaid, Mental Health and Juvenile Justice.

The group has been focused on finding community and family-based help for children with behavioral health needs.

"The ... grant will allow the Department of Mental Health to work with other child serving agencies in SC to continue moving forward to provide children suffering from serious and emotional disorders, and their families, with quality cost effective services," said John Magill, state director for the Department of Mental Health, in a prepared statement.

Additional state money, combined with the grant, will provide $4 million over four years to support the initiative.
