Bethlehem Ambulance Association holds mental health first aid training

Town Times (Watertown-Oakville, CT) - 5/26/2016

BETHLEHEM - In recognition of May as Mental Health Awareness Month, Bethlehem Ambulance Association is hosting free Mental Health First Aid Training.

The training event will take place from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, May 28, at 83 Main Street South in Bethlehem.

Mental Health First Aid is a nationally-recognized, evidence-based, eight-hour certificate training that helps prepare adults to recognize and address the signs and symptoms of developing mental health problems or substance use disorders. First Aiders do not take on the role of professionals ? they do not diagnose or provide any therapy. Instead, the program offers concrete tools and answers key questions like, "What do I do?" and "Where can someone find help?"

Training is provided free of charge due to federal funding by SAMHSA (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration) to accelerate Mental Health First Aid training across Litchfield County through its "Now is the Time" Project AWARE Community Grant to support young adults ages 16 to 24.

The grant was awarded to Mental Health Connecticut, a statewide nonprofit direct service, education, and advocacy organization whose mission is to improve mental health for all Connecticut residents.

Free Mental Health First Aid Training will take place Saturday, May 28, at the Bethlehem Ambulance Association, 83 Main Street South in Bethlehem.
