Dole recalling baby spinach over salmonella concerns

Aug. 13--Dole issued a recall on packages of baby spinach over Salmonella risks.

The affected products are 6-ounce Dole Baby Spinach bags and 10-ounce Dole Baby Spinach clamshell packages that were distributed in Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Tennessee, Virginia and Wisconsin.

Both items have a use-by date of August 5, 2019. Customers are encouraged to throw out the items if the use-by date matches.

The recall was issued after a sample of the spinach taken by the Department of Agriculture in Michigan tested positive for salmonella.

While no illnesses have been reported, symptoms include fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. Symptoms would be most severe in young children, the elderly or anyone with a weakened immune system.
