City of National City | Section 8 Rental Assistance Program, Housing and Economic Development

Offers the Section 8 federal program designed to assist low-income persons and families with housing. Applicants are placed on a waiting list pending certification for the program. Once certified, the applicant must rent a unit based on local comparable rentals. Unit is inspected by commission staff and approved for occupancy. Tenant pays approximately 30% of income to the landlord, while the balance is paid by the commission with funds from the Department of Housing and Urban Development. Also offers special rental housing for low-income seniors.
